Embroidering Dissent

Marignana Project presents Embroidering Dissent, a solo exhibition by Katharina Büttgen, developed in collaboration with CREA Cantieri del Contemporaneo following the exhibition prize awarded during the second edition of CREA OPEN.

Combining embroidery, photography, and found fabrics, Büttgen explores themes of identity, migration, political violence, and loss. Drawing on her family history and her connection to Belarusian culture, she transforms images of protest and repression into soft, domestic, seemingly fragile surfaces.

Through the contrast between the delicacy of textile work and the brutality of the subjects, embroidery becomes a form of resistance and a means of turning political images into material memory.
