Quayola
A project curated by Alberto Peruzzo Foundation and the University of Padua Botanical Garden with the support of Marignana Arte
Second Nature is an exhibition project by the artist Quayola (Rome, 1982) that aims at offering a new interpretation of the vegetal world through a contemporary eye, within a historic place that is one of the most renowned testimonies of the evolution of the science of botany. Quayola’s digital works since the series Remains and Summer Gardens– whose subjects are flowers and forests – actually dialogue with the sites of the ancient Botanical Garden in an exchange that is not merely esthetic: the project reveals connections between the artist’s practice, the Garden’s scientific tradition, and the most compelling themes relating to the evolutionary direction of the human species and the planet.
