From Sept. 7 to Oct. 5, 2024, Marignana Project is hosting the exhibition Trasparenze. Vetri soffiati di Vittorio Zecchin. On the occasion of the eighth edition of the international glass art festival The Venice Glass Week, Marignana Arte presents a selection of historic vases, made between 1921 and 1925, from the renowned Vetri Soffiati Muranesi (V.S.M.) Cappellin Venini & C company. Under the artistic direction of painter Vittorio Zecchin, this company significantly contributed to the renewal of blown glass design. The production from these years, inspired by the designs and aesthetics of the 16th century (notably the “Veronese” vase designed in 1921 and inspired by Paolo Veronese’s Annunciation) is characterized by simple shapes and muted colors. These works, while staying true to tradition, anticipated modern design and achieved great success at the 1923 and 1925 Monza Biennials, as well as at the 1925 Universal Exhibition of Decorative and Industrial Arts in Paris. The exhibition design also includes the use of recently made shelves using portions of large “Rui,” enameled glass circles used in the making of Venetian leaded glass windows, produced by another leading Venetian art glass factory specializing in stained glass, MVM Cappellin & C, active between 1925 and 1931. Through the display of several vases, the exhibition highlights the innovation of an artist who has been able to reinterpret classical forms in a modern way. Thanks to Zecchin’s stylistic language, which blends tradition and modernity, he created works with fluid and timeless lines that continue to fascinate and inspire.
